She also looked humble, a far cry from the woman who shouted at medics alongside an unidentified male, threw files on the floor and hit a table.

Ogema presented herself to the police after an outcry from agitated members of the public and the Kenya Medical Practitioners Pharmacists Dentists Union (KMPDU) secretary general Davji Atellah.

Busia government claims hospital property was destroyed

"This is rudimentary, illegal, and immoral. The attitude and action by politicians and their cronies to threaten healthcare workers at their place of work should be curtailed," he said.
"The safety of healthcare workers is threatened in such facilities. The perpetrators of this heinous act should be brought to book urgently," he added.

According to the Busia county government, hospital property, including an oxygen concentrator, was damaged in the process.

The incident also forced the hospital staff to down their tools on January 5, and had to transfer their patients to other facilities.
