Kenyans predominantly enjoy American and Italian cuisines, with traditional food securing the third spot having experienced the highest surge in orders, boasting a remarkable growth of +50% compared to 2022.

Notably, the report highlights that these traditional Kenyan dishes experience peak popularity on Sundays, specifically between 12 to 2 pm, a trend that suggests a cultural inclination among Kenyan consumers towards savoring local delicacies during leisurely weekend afternoons.

In 2023, Glovo's report illuminates the dynamic shift towards online ordering in Kenya, marking a significant transformation in consumer habits and highlighting the app's reinforced position as a leading multicategory platform with substantial changes in the Kenyan consumer landscape.

Rise of Online Grocery Shopping:

One of the most remarkable transformations is observed in Kenyans' grocery shopping habits, with a 44.9% increase in grocery orders through Glovo.

This indicates a clear preference for the convenience of online shopping, with supermarkets that are integrated into the app experiencing a remarkable 150% surge in grocery orders in 2023.

Notably, the scheduling of grocery orders peaks at 8 am, reflecting a shift towards more planned and thoughtful shopping habits.

The report also highlights the diversity in consumer orders, showcasing a 44% increase in pharmacy product orders, driven by the demand for essential health products.

Furthermore, the flower category experienced a 314% growth, with significant peaks on occasions like Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day.

This underlines the cultural importance of these events in Kenya and the role of online platforms like Glovo in facilitating diverse consumer needs.

Kenyans embrace tipping culture

In other related news on food deliveries, Kenyan consumers exhibited remarkable generosity, tipping Glovo riders a total of KSh 115,325 during the period.

Among the most generous cities in terms of tipped orders were Diani, Ngong-Rongai-Karen, and notably, Kisumu standing out for their generosity towards delivery riders, reflecting a culture of appreciation for service.
