Clerics Lament Being Accused Of Misleading Kenyans To Vote For Ruto: " We're Being Crucified"

Kiambu - A section of church leaders has criticised the national government for failing to deliver their 2022 General Election campaign promises.

The Federation of Evangelical and Indigenous Christian Churches of Kenya (FEICCK) members decried being accused of misleading Kenyans.

FEICCK Secretary General Bishop David Thagana said President William Ruto and his Deputy Rigathi Gachagua made promises that made their churches rally their followers to support them.

Thagana said just like they supported the Kenya Kwanza team during polls, they are obligated to keep them in check and hold them accountable.

"We are now being crucified for leading our followers into supporting the government that they say has failed them. We are reminding our leaders that they used our platforms to rally for support, and we therefore must continue holding them accountable," the bishop stated.

The clerics are at the Ukombozi Retreat Center in Juja, Kiambu county, for a prayer seminar.

What is FEICCK's plea to government

Thagana further observed that the government cannot be talking about integrity, yet it doesn't fulfil its promises.

The clergyman disclosed that Kenyans are slowly becoming dejected with the skyrocketing cost of living.

"We are demanding that the sitting government fulfils the promises it made to Kenyans. We cannot talk about integrity without the fulfilment of promises made. Kenyans are expectant but continue to lose hope in the wake of increased cost of living," he added.

Bishop Jackson Ole Sapit criticises gov't

In a related development, Anglican Church of Kenya Archbishop Jackson Ole Sapit called out Ruto's government for failing to cushion Kenyans against a high cost of living.

In an address to the press on Thursday, September 28, Sapit joined the majority of Kenyans who are decrying the high cost of living that has not been made better with the high taxation.
