The Ministry heeded the examiners' appeal for more time to compile, verify and validate the results; they were to be released on December 28.

Following the development, the results woould be out by the end of the second week of the coming month.

Meanwhile, the government recently repealed the SMS code used to relay national examination results.

Short text code for KCPE/KCSE results blocked

Machogu stated that the department and the Ministry of ICT were working towards opening a website where all candidates could check their results for free.

“We (Ministry of Education) do away with SMS transmission of national exam provisional results and open a new platform. Currently, school portals are the most reliable," said Machogu.

While appearing before a National Assembly departmental committee on Education, the CS noted that candidates were restricted from accessing the website.

The CS further disclosed that the ministry had terminated the services of the contractor in charge of transmitting 2023 KCPE results through SMS, holding the firm accountable for the inaccurate results received by certain candidates.

The announcement came after schools and students raised complaints about the results.

The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) admitted to some internal blunders that led to the relaying of wrong results.

The exam body confirmed it was in receipt of plaints of below-par grading, with 133 of them being confirmed as genuine concerns.

The results were, however reviewed and updated as per the needs of the affected candidates, KNEC said.

Moi Primary School Kabarak was among the institutions disputing the scores.

A total of 278 candidates were registered at the institution to take the national examination.

Divided into two streams, the top-performing candidate posted 374 marks out of the possible 500; the top pupil in the second class scored 344 marks.

Moi Primary cries foul

Dissatisfied with the results, and foreseeing the wrath of the parents, the school addressed letters to them, registering their displeasure.

The administration said it had contacted KNEC for a review, stating that the results at hand did not reflect the abilities of the candidates.

They pointed to a supposed unfair play by the operatives at the examination council.
