It is the last day of 2023. The year that was. It had many happenings and ordinary Kenyans shot to fame in the most unexpected ways.

TUKO.co.ke has compiled a list of six people who made headlines and became famous overnight.

1. Gloria Ntazola

Gloria Ntanzola became an internet sensation after a video of her confronting a City County officer for entering her car over an alleged parking violation emerged online.

The incident began when the officer approached the lady’s car after a parking offence and entered her vehicle.

Ntazola explained that she had not committed any offence to warrant him entering her car.

“Why have you got into my car? Why are you people like that? Was that an offence to make you get into my car? I’m going with you to my destination because why would you get into my car? Are you a traffic police?” she asked.

Towards the end of the clip, they were seen driving along the Nairobi Expressway, all while the lady expressed her frustration.

The video sparked mixed reactions from Kenyans, some sympathising with her while others criticising her for being rude and disrespectful.

2. Ngesh

Mary Ngesh also had a year to remember as she went viral thanks to her Gengetone hit song Kaveve Kazoze.

What made the song gain attention was its hilarious lyrics.

Ngesh would soon become a household name and a darling to many Kenyans.

Despite achieving fame, she struggled until people, like nominated Senator Karen Nyamu and Mike Sonko, came to her rescue and supported her financially.

3. Amos and Nelly

Early this month, the media was awash with the news of Nelly Chepkoech and Amos Rono, the Bomet couple whose wedding was halted at the last minute under unclear circumstances.

Amos was madly in love with Nelly. They dated for six months, and he paid her dowry before going ahead to plan their wedding, which was slated for December 9.

However, on D-day, things took a dramatic turn when Nelly cancelled the wedding.

4. Nanny Rosie

The Kenyan nanny went viral early this month after a video showing her bidding farewell to the children she cared for emerged online.

Footage shared showed them at the airport, escorting Rosie to the airport to board a plane.

Emotions ran high as the kids refused to let Rosie go, and all they did was shed tears.

The parents had difficulty keeping the children away from Rosie as they clung to her.

Rosie got emotional as she wiped away tears as she parted ways with the children she cared for.

The screams attracted people’s attention at the airport as they witnessed the emotional goodbyes.

The video touched the hearts of many Kenyans, who praised Rosie for being a loving and caring nanny.

Rosie had worked for the family and had formed a strong bond with the children.

5. Dancing traffic police officer

In September, Kenyans online were impressed by a robust police officer who broke free from their serious world to showcase his dancing skills.

The heavily built officer danced with wanton disregard for onlookers when Diamond’s “Bora Ni Enjoy” song began playing.

He was captured on video swaying his hips to the music, bringing amusement to those who witnessed it.

The video was shared widely on social media, with many people commending the officer for his positive energy and spirit.

They also applauded him for bringing joy and laughter to the public.

6. Pastor Mackenzie

Pastor Paul Mackenzie also had a huge share of fame this year.

This is after he was discovered to have made his believers starve to death with a promise of meeting Jesus once they starve to death.

The self-proclaimed prophet had convinced his followers that the world was coming to an end, and that the only way to be saved was to fast to death.

He locked them up in his church, where he monitored their progress and prevented them from seeking any help.

He also brainwashed them to believe that their hunger and pain were signs of their purification and salvation.

However, his evil plan was exposed when some of the members managed to escape and alert the authorities.

The police raided the church and found dozens of dead bodies and skeletons, as well as some survivors who were in critical condition.

They also arrested Pastor Mackenzie and his accomplices, who were charged.

The story shocked and angered many Kenyans, who condemned the pastor for his wickedness and cruelty.

They also called for justice for the victims and their families, who had been deceived and exploited by the fake prophet.
