January 8 - Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has officially released the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exam results.

After completing KCSE, students are now looking to pursue courses in tertiary institutions.

Nursing and medicine are some of the most attractive courses in Kenya, with the availability of jobs and attractive salaries, in Kenya and abroad among the reasons why many Kenyans are seeking these courses.

The cost of studying nursing

The cost of studying nursing in renowned colleges depends on whether one is a government or privately-sponsored student.

The following is the fee structure for all courses at the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC)

Therefore, it costs an average of KSh 277,000 for government-sponsored students and KSh 417,000 for privately sponsored students to complete a nursing course in Kenya

Cost of medicine programme in Kenyan universities

A spot check by TUKO.co.ke found that first-year students enrolled for a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology will pay KSh 625,000 annually over three semesters.

To get the surgery and medicine degree at the UoN (University of Nairobi), you will be paying about KSh 630,000 every year.

On average, other major universities, including Moi University, Maseno, and Kenyatta University, also require more than KSh 600,000 annually for a degree in medicine and surgery.

Although the annual payments vary slightly depending on the year of study, it requires approximately KSh 3.6 million to complete the six years of medicine and surgery programmes in top Kenyan universities.

Cluster points for nursing in different universities in Kenya

Earlier, TUKO.co.ke reported that If you want to do nursing at any higher institution in Kenya, you require four cluster subjects to be admitted.

The four cluster subjects for nursing are Mathematics or Physics, English or Kiswahili, Chemistry, and Biology/Biological Science.

All universities have their minimum cluster points for nursing. For example, the cluster points for nursing at Dedan Kimathi University differ from those at Chuka University.
