Kenyans Unearth Murkomen's Tweet Affirming JKIA Won't Witness Blackout Again: "He Forgot"

• However, Kenyans retweeet his previous tweet, where he promised there will be no power blackout at JKIA

On August 26, Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen assured the country that a power outage would not be witnessed again at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

The assurance by the Transport CS came after several parts of the country were left in darkness after a blackout hit Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) on August 25.

What Murkomen said in August

Murkomen toured JKIA to assess the situation after Kenyans and passengers expressed their anger over the lack of a standby generator.

"Arrived at Kenya Airport Authority offices at JKIA. This situation will not happen again," Murkomen said in August.

Less than four months later, the JKIA was plunged into darkness after two generators failed to start automatically following a power blackout.

In a statement, Murkomen said he led a team composed of PS Transport, Kenya Airports Authority Board Chairman, and Managing Director, among other KAA officials, to assess the situation at the airport.

However, the statement by Murkomen attracted fury from Kenyans, who wondered if the CS had forgotten what he promised a few months ago.

Kenyans took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to retweet the previous promise by the Transport CS.

Why Murkomen wants police to probe power outage

Meanwhile, Murkomen asked the National Police Service to investigate the frequent power disruptions in the country.

According to Murkomen, the frequent power blackouts could be an act of sabotage and coverup by government employees.

"Considering the frequency of the power disruption and taking into account the fact that JKIA is a facility of strategic national importance, we are making a formal request to the National Police Service to investigate possible acts of sabotage and coverup," Murkomen said.
