Ichung'wah said the commission would help deter preceding regimes from leaving the country in trouble after the end of their tenure.

"I am doing a state capture commission bill as a private member; as a member of Kikuyu constituency. I firmly believe that our past should inform our future. That we must never as a country get back to the pitfalls that we fell into as country; where state capture determined what contracts would go to who, what government policies would be advanced. Not in the interest of the public good but in the interest of private business interest," he said.

The MP maintained that the move would keep heads of state and those under them in check to prevent the looting of public resources.

"I believe that it is something we should do as a country so that we confront the question of state capture and corruption in this country head-on to inform our future as I said. So that today President William Ruto or those working with him don't take advantage of their position in government to advance private business interests at the expense of public good," he added.

Key government projects during Uhuru's tenure likely to be investigated include the deal on Standard Gauge Railway, the July 2022 unga subsidy and other dealings Kenya Kwanza claims are shrouded in mystery.

Ichung'wah says he blocked Uhuru

Earlier, Ichung'wah revealed he had not been on talking terms with the former president for a long while.

Ichung'wah claimed Uhuru would phone him and coerce him to undertake certain matters in his capacity as the chairman of the Budget and Appropriations Committee in the National Assembly.

He would not comply with Uhuru's demands and thus chose to block him due to unending intimidations and threats.
