TV presenter Monty Don has spoken about his relationship and subsequent marriage to his wife of 40 years, Sarah.

He disclosed that he met the beautiful woman while she was already married to a man he was friends with.

Attraction at first sight

The Mirror reports that as much as Don broke up his friend's marriage, he has no regrets about how their romance started.

According to the media personality, he fell in love with Sarah when she was still married to a wealthy botanist.

"It was, obviously, complicated. I don't think it was love at first sight. I think it was an intense attraction at first sight," he explained.

Don disclosed that once he set his eyes on the woman, he wondered why she hadn't met him before getting married elsewhere.

No regrets for Don

A year later, their paths crossed again, and this time, Sarah's husband was away for about four months on a field trip.

The two started talking and a friendship developed, leading to a romance that saw the woman leave her marriage for Don.

"She chose me and it was for about six months an extremely difficult, unhappy tormented set-up because he obviously was not very happy with that arrangement,” he recalled.

Don proposed to Sarah on a rowing boat in Scotland and secretly planned their wedding for less than a week after returning home.

All is fair in love and war

He noted that his friend "felt betrayed" and was "very angry" with the development but admitted he didn't "feel bad" about the situation.

The lovebirds have been married for four decades, but he admits to feeling sorry for his friend and "guilty about it".

He maintained that there is a need for some ruthlessness regarding love and war because all is fair.

"If you decide to be with someone and it means breaking up their marriage, you can't then say 'Oh I feel really bad about this,' he continued.

The marriage has not been without its ups and downs, as Sarah once threatened to leave him because of his depression if he did not seek help.

Side chic to wife

In an earlier story, a young lady shared her excitement on social media after getting married to the love of her life.

According to her, she was in a relationship with a man who had another woman at the time.

She stayed by his side out of love until he fell deeply in love with her and left the other girl to marry her.
