Nairobi: Family In Distress As Kin Is Injured At Govt's Affordable Housing Project

Nairobi- A family in Mihango area, Utawala, are living in agony following their kin's near-death experience at a construction site in Ruiru.

Benjamin Mwangi Ndive was working at an affordable housing project site in Ruiru when a stone fell on him, causing a serious head injury.

His brother, Joseph Ndive, said when he was brought to the hospital, his chances of survival were slim, explaining that he was in a terrible condition.

The 40-year-old man's father, Simon Ndive, stated that he was dependent on oxygen and could not move his body without help.

"When he was brought in by the ambulance, he was placed on oxygen, and, to be honest, he wasn't making any movements," he said.

Mwangi's employer committed to foot the bill as he was admitted and underwent numerous medical procedures and surgery.

"He committed and said he would pay for everything, so we shouldn't worry. When asked by the hospital, he confirmed that he would settle all the bills," Simon stated.

Why is Benjamin's family struggling

Benjamin was admitted to the facility and had a successful surgery, accruing a medical bill of KSh 1.1 million.

The construction company entrusted, with the medical expenses partially fulfilled, their promise to pay KSh 330 000.

"KSh 330, 000 was paid on Sunday, October 22. This money was raised by people who brought my brother to the hospital and was paid through M-Pesa," Joseph disclosed.

He was discharged on Monday, December 13, but is held captive due to an unpaid balance of KSh 870,000.

Simon has stated that they recently had another seek relative and used up more than KSh 100,000 in medical expenses.

Their pleas to the company's management have remained unanswered as they fear the bill will continue to rise as Benjamin is detained.

Mjengo man says he earns KSh 8800 monthly

Separately, a man in a video said he receives KSh 8,800 for the physically demanding work he does daily.

The man who works in mjengo carries 300 bags of cement daily and has revealed how much he earns every month in a video.

Several people on social media who saw the video said his monthly salary was too meagre, considering the demands of his work.
