Njeri Maina Offers To Sponsor 100 Orphans From Underprivileged Families Through High School

• Tens of orphans in Kirinyaga County who would have struggled to raise high school fees now have every reason to smile
• This is after MP Njeri Maina offered to sponsor fees for 100 needy orphans from Form One to Form Four
• Apart from fees, the philanthropist also has plans to buy shopping for the students to ensure they are comfortable in school

Kirinyaga Member of Parliament Njeri Maina has committed to sponsoring the high school education of 100 orphans through the "Tupange Kesho na Masomo" program.

The initiative, operating under the umbrella of Tupange Kesho, aims to provide comprehensive support to deserving students from Form 1 to Form 4 across all 20 wards in the county.

Mentorship also offered

She told TUKO.co.ke that beyond the financial aid; the program incorporates a mentorship component, with more than 30% of beneficiaries receiving guidance as they embark on their educational journey.

Known for her commitment to education and community welfare, Njeri emphasized the importance of a holistic approach to nurturing the potential of these young minds.

The mentorship program is designed to ensure the overall development of the sponsored students, with progress closely monitored by the Tupange Kesho team.

"Apart from the fees and mentorship, we shall support students with shopping of over KSh 5,000 and regular visits to check in on their well-being," she said.

Education is powerful

Last year, Njeri's office issued bursaries and scholarships to over 500 orphans, specially-abled children, and children from underprivileged families.

During the programme's launch, she expressed her commitment to breaking down barriers to education for the less fortunate.

"Education is a powerful tool for empowerment, and every child deserves the opportunity to unlock their potential," she continued.

Through Tupange Kesho na Masomo, she hoped to make a lasting impact on the lives of young minds, ensuring they have the resources needed to succeed in their academic journey.

Parents struggling with Form One fees

Her philanthropic project comes when many parents are worried about raising funds for their students joining Form One in February.

While announcing the placement of Form One students into secondary schools, Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu indicated that the process was fair as most students got their preferred schools.

He asked Regional Directors of Education and County Education Directors to ensure that school principals did not impose additional levies on parents beyond the Ministry of Education's limits.
