Meru - Distress and anguish have been the mood at the home of blogger David Muthiani, alias Sniper, since he went missing two weeks ago.

A section of Meru politicians are calling on the police to speed up their investigation into the disappearance of Muthiani and save his family from distress.

"I visited the family and almost shed tears. His two children asked me where their father was. We want the police to get to the bottom of this," ordered the area MCA Titus Murithi after he visited the family.

According to a report by Nation, the deputy county boss, Isaac Mutuma, pledged to show support and solidarity while urging the family to remain calm as the police conducted investigations into his whereabouts.

How did Muthiani get lost?

According to his wife, Irene Kawira, the political activist and blogger, left their Kabuiti home on December 2 at 8:30pm after he received a call from an acquaintance suggesting a meeting with him at an address he did not disclose.

Kawira said she did not call him that night until the following day. However, her efforts to reach him were thwarted as his phone was switched off.

The distressed family reported the matter to Maua Police Station on Monday, December 4.

Muthiani's brother, Francis Mutuma, revealed that the officers did not provide any updates on the progress of the search, leading them to approach the county police commander, Cunningham Suiyanka, for assistance.

What could have led to his 'abduction'?

The Meru political activist had been sharing critical information about politicians whom he believed were not fulfilling their campaign promises.

Mutuma claimed that his continued social media posts were the cause of conflict between him and the Meru politicians.

"We believe that those in the other camp felt they were being hit hard and decided to silence him. We ask the police to expedite the probe so he is found," said Mutuma.

Dennis Itumbi found alive

In 2021, blogger Denis Itumbi was found after his alleged abduction.

He was, however, beaten because he supported the then deputy president, William Ruto, according to some politicians.

"They are punishing Itumbi because he supports the deputy president. We no longer fear. They can use bullets and police stations; they should even build more. We believe those holding him are state agents. They want to punish him because he has been exposing the monkey businesses dined by senior government officials," said Nandi senator Samson Cherargei, who was addressing a presser.
