Nakuru - The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has warned party members against opposing government positions.

Why the UDA will be taking action against rebel MPs

On Saturday, December 1, UDA secretary general Cleophas Malala said the ruling party would take disciplinary action against rebel members.

According to Malala, the party has taken a decision to ensure members holding key positions abide by the government's decisions on key members.

Malala said the party will not entertain members out to undermine the plans of President William Ruto's government.

"Our party leader has been working hard to salvage this country from the dungeons of economic depression, but we have members who do not understand this. They have been going in public to oppose government positions and programmes. We are going to institute an internal mechanism to deal with such members," Malala said.

He pointed out that it was unprofessional for Members of Parliament to publicly oppose the position taken by the party and the president.

"It is very unprofessional for a sitting member of parliament to go to the public to oppose UDA positions on certain matters. We shall not entertain such members of the UDA," he added.

Malala noted that the party has provided rebel MPs with avenues to address their grievances, including parliamentary group meetings.

How Wamuchomba criticised Ruto's housing project

As reported earlier, Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba has never been shy about criticising Ruto, despite him being her party leader.

Among the UDA party members who voted against the housing levy, Wamuchomba has maintained her reservations about the affordable housing project.

During an interview on Spice FM on Thursday, November 30, the lawmaker claimed she fears the affordable housing would be a land-grabbing scheme.

Wamuchomba warned that some of the leaders fronting the project would regret their decision and would have to pay.

"I think when I said this is scandalous, I meant that there are some schemes of taking over prime land and handing over to other players unconstitutionally, irregularly, and some of us will pay for what we are doing now in the future," she said.
