Cosmo Choy with President William Ruto

  • William Ruto has dented his standing, and thus, chances for his re-election are zeroed by the day, says Cosmo Choy, one of the president's chief fanatics
  • According to the US-based Kenyan, Ruto's supporters have developed disdain against him over an array of issues, among them the cost of living
  • Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka would be the man to beat, Cosmo says, forecasting Ruto being a one-term president, the first in Kenya's history

Nairobi - Vocal President William Ruto's fanatic Cosmo Choy foresees the president losing in his 2027 re-election bid.

The US-based Kenyan analysed the political status quo, after which he concluded Ruto would be shown dust should he face off with Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka.

To begin with, the Wiper leader's disposition, akin to that of former president the late Mwai Kibaki, inflates his chances of becoming president, according to Cosmo's analysis.

"Kalonzo immortalises the late Mwai Kibaki who was loved by many, including those from Nyanza," he said.

Why William Ruto will lose in 2027, Cosmo

Meanwhile, Ruto is on record restating he is not committed to his re-election, saying his keen focus now is delivering on the plan with which he sought office.

Ruto, according to Cosmo, dented his political standing by apparently reneging on his campaign promises, his supposed failure to address the cost of living, oppressive tax regimes and the regional imbalance in state appointments, among other parameters.

He said Ruto's strongholds had lost hope in his leadership and were thus yearning for change.

It would be a tall order for the president to convince Kenyans again, Cosmo said, adding that compounding the situation for him (Ruto) is the unlikability of his deputy Rigathi Gachagua.

"The deputy president is not liked by Kenyans and he thus cannot help the president seek votes. He is a tribalist and irks Kenyans with his talk, especially with the shareholding in government," said Cosmo.

Kalonzo Musyoka's millions of votes

The president must put in a lot of work to recapture his supporters and attract more into his fold, including those from his backyard.

Ruto's popularity has been constantly waning by the day owing to his style of leadership characterised by supposedly incompetent bureaucrats sabotaging his agenda, Cosmo says, listing rigging as the president's sole strategy to remain in power for the second term if he elects to run again.

He also got the option to solve the question of the economy and scrap the handful of taxes and levies currently imposed on Kenyans.

Kalonzo would win the vote with upward of 1.5 million ballots, the man predicts.

"I speak even to those from his backyard, learned people and they say they are not ready to re-elect him (Ruto). From Nyanza, Kisii, Coast, and Eastern among all the regions, will rally behind Kalonzo...The ground has shifted away from him, I still like him but that is the truth, unless he rigs himself in," said Cosmo.

Ruto's win on first attempt

The president took the lead on August 9, 2022, vote routing former prime minister Raila Odinga, who was his main rival.

Raila would dispute Ruto's assumption of the presidency, labelling him an illegitimate president.

According to him, Ruto was rigged into office by the elections management body then under Wafula Chebukati.

Ruto was declared the winner of the 2022 presidential vote after garnering over 7.1 million votes, flooring Raila who trailed in second place with upward of 6.9 million votes.

His effort to challenge Ruto's win in the Supreme Court proved futile after all.

This was after the jury, stewarded by Chief Justice Martha Koome, threw out the petition, upholding the president's victory.

That would be Raila's fifth failed attempt at the presidency after the others in 2017, 2013, 2007, and 1997.
