John Jomo Kenyatta, Uhuru's eldest son, has recently been the subject of police investigations after a raid on his house.

Jomo had his house targeted in what Interior Cabinet Secretary Kindiki said was an operation following intelligence reports that 23 firearms were being kept in three houses in Karen.

Following the raid, Jomo instituted legal proceedings against the state following the revocation of his gun licence.

Jomo filed a case at the High Court seeking to have the government compelled to rescind its move to withdraw his gun licence, stating he had followed due procedure.

1. Former first son

Jomo's house in Karen was among three houses that were visited by the police in search of what was claimed to be illegal firearms

Speaking in Karen, Uhuru, who swiftly came to the defence of his son, told off the government, stating they should target him, not his children.

2. Firearms licence revocation

Through lawyer Fred Ngatia, Jomo sought to have the Chief Licensing officer, the Licensing Board and the Attorney General barred from taking his firearms permit.

"On inquiry as to the reasons, if any, that had caused an abrupt demand for my firearms, the offices feigned ignorance. The grounds upon which a firearm license can be revoked are provided in section 5(7) of the Firearms Act, which when ,read with section 7 (2) (a) (v) of the fair administrative action act, cannot be invoked without being allowed to be heard," Jomo said.

3. Govt orders Uhuru's family to surrender guns

On Monday, July 24, TUKO.co.ke reported that the government ordered the former first family to surrender all guns in their possession.

Uhuru's brother, sons and their four other close associates were ordered to surrender the guns registered in their names to the chief licensing officer.

Speaking to journalists from his son Jomo Kenyatta's Karen residence on Friday, July 21, the former head of state said he felt his family's safety had been threatened, which is why he had gone to the home.

The former president's other son whom he claimed chases birds from an irrigation farm in Mwea using his guns, was during 2017 Jubilee campaign spotted touring the North Rift region to drum up support for the government

Former president Uhuru Kenyatta was agitated by the government's decision to target his family after their security was downscaled. He vowed to defend them.

"You know I've been quiet, But it doesn't mean I will not defend my family. I will defend my family, and I will defend it to the end," Uhuru said.

7. Kindiki Kithure tough on gun owners

Interior CS Kindiki Kithure defended the raids, stating that the law allows the police to inspect premises where firearms are kept.

He said the raids are meant to allow the authorities to conduct inspection and ballistic examination, especially if it is suspected to have been used.

Kenyatta's guns to scare away birds

On Tuesday, July 25, TUKO.co.ke reported that Uhuru sparked mixed reactions after he disclosed his son uses guns to scare away birds in Mwea Irrigation Scheme.

The retired head of state, during a briefing with journalists on Monday, July 24, addressed the recent cold war between him and his estranged successor President William Ruto.

Uhuru explained his sons own guns and said his younger son Muhoho likes to use his firearm to scare away birds for recreational purposes.

"My son has an interest in guns, and it is because of his hobby of shooting birds in Mwea Irrigation Scheme to scare them away. The guns are for animals, and he applied after I left office," he said, as quoted by the Daily Nation.
