On a picturesque day in June 2023, amidst loved ones and close friends, Shaw tied the knot with her partner Bill James in North Carolina.

Shaw's journey has been one of resilience, love, and triumph.

Diagnosed with stage three colorectal cancer just two months into her relationship with James, her life took an unexpected turn.

Undergoing treatment at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, Shaw was under the care of Dr. Holliday and Dr. Morris.

These medical professionals not only treated her illness but also provided unwavering support during her challenging times.

Idea to appreciate the doctors

The idea to have her doctors walk her down the aisle came from a deep place of appreciation and recognition.

Shaw saw them as the "hands of fate that saved me and allowed me time to marry Bill."

The emotional significance of their presence was evident as she described her decision, saying,

"I was so honoured that they came, so honoured that they took time out of their schedule to be here for me. They got to see what they saved me for."

The wedding itself was a symbol of triumph over adversity.

Surrounded by their children, grandchildren, friends, and the doctors who had become a crucial part of her life, Shaw and James exchanged vows.

Medics privileged to attend wedding

Dr Holliday and Dr Morris, adorned in pink attire to match the theme, proudly walked Shaw down the aisle, embodying the profound impact medical professionals can have on a patient's life beyond the clinical setting.

Dr Morris reflected on the privilege of being a part of Sherri's journey, saying,

"Being able to be a part of Sherri's journey at one of the lowest points in her life when she was diagnosed with cancer, and then be able to be there for the highest of high days as well – it was an absolute no-brainer to share that."

Dr Holliday echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the rarity of being invited to a patient's wedding in the world of oncology.

Sherri Shaw's story is not only a testament to her resilience but also a tribute to the dedication of healthcare professionals who go above and beyond for their patients.

The joyous occasion celebrated not just love but the triumph of the human spirit over adversity.

Couples exchange vows in mass wedding

Back at home, Nyandarua town was buzzing with excitement on April 22, 2023, after 12 couples exchanged vows in a mass wedding ceremony.

The event, which attracted the attention and support of the entire community, was held at the St. Teresa Equator Catholic parish in Ol-Joro Orok.

Citizen Digital reports that among those who attended was Ol-Joro Orok Member of Parliament Michael Muchir.

The emotion-filled ceremony was presided over by Bishop Joseph Mbatia of the Catholic Diocese of Nyahururu.
