Busia - Police officers from Busia county have been left stunned after the heavily tinted hearse it flagged down was found with 12 sacks of bhang.

The consignment of the narcotics was being ferried to the port of Kisumu in a white hearse that was playing sombre tunes to create the illusion that it was carrying human remains.

In a statement by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, when the van was stopped at a roadblock at Suo in Busia County, the driver was initially hesitant to lower his window, and he muttered some words after responding to the officer’s greetings.

It was then the police officers detected the smell of bhang emanating from the vehicle.

The hearse's driver, Hussein Otita, was arrested, and the motor vehicle registration number KCV 402Y was impounded.
