Nairobi - First Daughter Charlene Ruto has revealed her father, President William Ruto, is addicted to honey.

Why did William Ruto stop taking sugar?

Speaking at a stakeholders forum on the importance of honey, Charlene said the head of state no longer takes tea, which has sugar, but prefers using honey instead.

However, the first daughter disclosed that Ruto initially lacked knowledge on which type of honey has more nutritional value as he kept complaining about the honey's texture.

"Our president loves honey so much that nowadays, he no longer takes tea with sugar. But he also has a customer education challenge because sometimes he says he doesn't want to see honey being too hard as it implies it is not good," Charlene said.

Because of her vast experience with honey, Charlene stated that she educated her father on what honey he should use frequently.

"But I have been educating him on what type of honey has more nutrients than the other," she added.

Why did Charlene Ruto grow sunflowers?

As reported earlier, the first daughter is a passionate farmer and runs an expansive enterprise in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu county.

The 30-year-old practices mixed farming and often shares snippets of what she is up to at the farm.

On Tuesday, August 29, Charlene shared numerous images depicting her sunflower farm.

She donned a black hat and a yellow dress with white stripes, seemingly matching the colour of the plants and completed the look with black gumboots.

She walked around the farm inspecting the sunflower while striking several poses.

Charlene disclosed that they planted the sunflower to strengthen the bee colonies. She then delved into how the crops were beneficial to the honey makers.

“Sunflower is rich in pollen which is literally food for the young bees. The additional benefit is that we will harvest the sunflower seeds to replant and, once in bulk, to sell," she said.

Charlene admitted that walking among the sunflower fields was fun, and watching the bees forage was therapeutic.
