Nairobi - Political analyst Herman Manyora has weighed on the assertion that Azimio La Umoja leader Raila Odinga was paid monies by President William Ruto to cede anti-government protests.

Manyora asked the former prime minister to clean the air following the claims that he was 'silenced' with monies whose amount remains unknown.

He added that it would be prudent if the other principals in Azimio also got their share.

"Baba Raila Odinga, how much money did William Ruto give you to buy your silence? We are coming for our share," posted Manyora on Twitter.

Rigathi Gachagua's money claims

The political analyst's remarks were referencing Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua's assertion that Raila was offered some unspecified amount of money.

While addressing mourners in Machakos on Tuesday, August 22, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua suggested that Ruto met with Raila in Mombasa where the latter's demands were declined save for 'money to eat'.

According to him, the engagements are a decoy of self-pleasing expedients advanced behind the scenes by the Azimio La Umoja leader.

He said Raila was 'sorted' in Mombasa in an unpublicized meeting.

Raila's 'handshake' with Ruto

The deputy president claimed that Raila approached Ruto for a share of government and ambassadorial posts, but all were in vain.

He revealed that Raila was instead offered an unmentioned amount of money, but this would be on condition that the former prime minister desists from his anti-government politicking.

"There is nothing else he wants. He wanted a handshake and three ambassadorial posts, but we declined his demands. We told him if he wants some money then we can discuss," he said.

The deputy president spoke in Mwala, Machakos county, where he graced the burial of the area MP's mother.
