Nairobi - Senior Principal Magistrate Njeri Thuku has ordered Muthaiga OCS to ensure businesswoman Nancy Kigunzu Indoveria alias Mathe Wa Ngara gets medical treatment.

Through her lawyers, Kigunzu told JKIA Law Courts that the police had denied her access to medication, Citizen Digital reported.

According to Kigunzu, she suffers from anxiety and needs to be granted some time off at the police station to access treatment.

Why court allowed police to detain Mathe Wa Ngara

The magistrate directed Muthaiga OCS to ensure the suspect is escorted to the hospital, arguing it is her right to get treatment.

“It should not happen that when I want you in court is when you claim to be in hospital. Let's not play those games. She has her right to access medication but only under the full escort of the police,” Thuku ruled.

At the same time, the magistrate allowed the police to hold a businesswoman linked to drug trafficking for five more days pending investigations.

In her ruling, Thuku said the prosecution's application to hold the suspect for more days was merited.

"Having gone through the submissions by both parties, I find that the prosecution application to detain the respondent is merited. The suspect is to be detained at Muthaiga Police Station for five days to allow police to complete their investigations," the magistrate ruled.

Fake 'mathe wa Ngara' goes missing

In another development, the fake 'mathe wa Ngara' was being sought by her family and lawyers after she went missing from the Muthaiga Police Station, where she was being detained.

Teresia Wanjiru was arrested with three others of juvenile age in connection with suspected drug peddling.

The quartet was detained as the investigators concluded their work.

The court would, however, fail to rule on her bail application after she could not be traced.

JKIA magistrate would not go ahead to rule on the prayer for bail placed by her lawyers, who said they had embarked on searching for her, NTV reported.

Members of her family who had brought her food in detention also claimed they did not find her.

The magistrate ordered that she be availed in court on the morning of Wednesday, August 23.
