Keen Kenyans have called out the DCI and National Police Service (NPS) over conflicting statements.

How Mathe Wa Ngara was arrested

On Tuesday, August 15, detectives from the DCI arrested at least three suspects and seized 25 sacks of bhang in a sting operation in the Ngara area.

54-year-old Teresia Wanjiru alias Mathe wa Ngara was arrested alongside three juveniles aged 16 and 17.

The bhang weighed 466 kilograms, and the police recovered KSh 13 million in cash from the house in the sprawling slums of Kariua, in Nairobi’s Ngara neighbourhood.

How DCI, NPS contradicted on Mathe Wa Ngara's cash

However, Kenyans called out the DCI and NPS after quoting different amounts of cash.

"A consignment of bhang and KSh 13.4 million in cash has been recovered," wrote the DCI.

However, the NPS said that the amount recovered was KSh 12,875,000.

Kenyans wondered why there were conflicting numbers, with some speculating where the money had gone.

@TeyaKevin:

“One million is already lost.”

@JohnEm_En:

“That money is for the Narcotics Development Levy (NDL).”

@VancyFancy254:

“By the time the money gets to court, it will be KSh 134,000.”

@johnpapa5:

“On Mashujaa Day, this squad will have the morale to pass in front of the president.”

@gauogilbert:

“The figure was actually increased, not the other way round.”

@MwebiJr:

“That is the 1.5% housing levy.”

@pahtriot_:

“Transport costs. Don’t you know there are also transaction costs?”

DCI's cheeky response to Mathe Wa Ngara's arrest

In other news, one tweeter user identified as @iamlegrande took on the officers claiming that the arrests won't bore any fruit.

"You can arrest Mathe, but you can't arrest kwa mathe," @iamlegrande tweeted.

But in a quick rejoinder, the detectives hilariously asked him to meet them in Ngara early today morning.

"Sawa. Tupatane kwa Mathe mapema. (That's okay, so let us meet at Mathe's early tomorrow,)" the DCI wrote.
