Former Trade Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) David Osiany has shared the inspiring story of Evance Abok, an extraordinary young man who just got a lucrative job.

In a long post on Facebook, Osiany waxed lyrical about Abok, stating that it was difficult to find an individual who is brilliant, articulate, gentle, kind and thoughtful.

Abok is humble, bright

He disclosed that he first read his story on social media and, after corroborating his story, reached out and asked him to be at his office for a physical meeting.

Osiany says that he was touched by Abok's humility right from the moment they exchanged greetings, adding that he was quick to notice he had almost resigned to fate.

"I could also see a tenacious spirit, willing to fight on, armed with the correct measure of hope, skills, attitude and grit," he wrote.

When they spoke, he learnt that Abok was top of his class and a leading student in Oriwo Boys High School.

Abok was Valedictorian

His brilliance continued when he joined Chuka University for a degree in Environmental Science as he was, once again, top of his class and graduated with a First Class Honors.

"Not only was he top of his class, but was also the Valedictorian of his year. This is to say, his aggregate mean score was the highest in the entire university during his graduation year," Osiany continued.

As stars would align, Abok bagged the coveted Fulbright Program Scholarship and joined the New York Institute of Technology for a Master of Science in Environmental Technology and Sustainability.

Once again, he was the best in his class and graduated with a distinction in his master's degree, the First Class version for masters.

What job was Abok offered?

That he knows what Abok is capable of, and having seen his struggle with finding a job, Osiany decided to come to his aid.

He figured that since he serves on the board of one of the NGOs engaged in Waste Management, Sustainability and Circularity, he would find a slot for the young man.

Abok was then subjected to a two-hour interview to assess his skills, competence and attitude, which he passed with flying colours.

"I am delighted to inform that Evance has walked away with an offer to be the Project Manager for a massive yet greatly interesting project with Taka Ni Mali (TTNM)," Osiany said proudly.

Opportunity met preparedness

The former CAS posited that it was by sheer luck that Abok needed a job at a time TTNM needed an environmental technology and sustainability expert.

It was easy for him given that he holds a master's degree in both fields from a leading environmental school, and demonstrated capability.

"Certainly, luck is when opportunity meets preparedness in the hands of God! We thank God! Onto the next good deed," he concluded.

Brave student offered job by Ledama Ole Kina

In another story with a happy ending, Mercy Tarus, the bold student who confronted Senator Jackson Mandag over the scholarship saga, was offered a job by Ledama Ole Kina.

Tarus, who rejected the opportunity, was among hundreds of students who fell victim to the Uasin Gishu County Government Oversees Scholarship Programme that didn't go through.

Tarus left Kenyans in amazement after she bravely confronted the leaders over the scholarship scam that has led her and other students to lose hundreds of thousands of shillings.
