Govt To Remove All Roadblocks, Replace Them With Patrols, CS Kithure Kindiki Announces

• Kithure Kindiki disclosed that President William Ruto directed his ministry to remove all roadblocks across the country
• Kindiki said the roadblocks will be dismantled by November 1 and replaced with patrols
• He clarified that apart from patrols, other security measures will be put in place to ensure safety

Nairobi - Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has disclosed that President William Ruto ordered the removal of all roadblocks in the country.

Kindiki said the president directed the roadblocks to be removed within 90 days and introduced police patrols and other ways of achieving the security intentions of the road barriers.

He further explained that roadblocks were an old way of managing traffic, saying that Kenya was moving with the latest security strategies of the world.

"Early this month, the president directed that within 90 days, we must remove all roadblocks and replace them with patrols and other ways of achieving the security intentions that roadblocks do play."

This directive of the president will be implemented to ensure that we do not have roadblocks anywhere in the country. It is an old way of managing traffic, and we must make sure that we are moving with the world," Kindiki explained.

Speaking when he appeared before the National Assembly Departmental Committee on Administration and Internal Security, the soft-spoken CS disclosed that roadblocks are erected on a need basis.

He further explained that permission is sought from the traffic headquarters on Thika Road, stating the purpose of the barrier, and once the intention is achieved, the barrier is dismembered.

"The government has eliminated roadblocks across the country, and they are only erected on a needs basis, and before a roadblock is set up, permission is sought from traffic headquarters in Nairobi.

The purpose of that roadblock must be defined, and as soon as that intended purpose, which is normally a security purpose, is achieved, the roadblock is dismantled," he said.

The optimistic Cabinet secretary stated that his ministry will eventually eliminate all roadblocks of whatever nature by November 1.

Why Kindiki ordered transfer of Isebania police officers

On Wednesday, May 31, Kindiki ordered the transfer of all police officers from the Isebania Police Station following a confrontation with the public that led to six deaths.

Kindiki visited Migori county to assess the security situation as residents decried rising insecurity, which they blamed on the laxity of security agencies in the area.

The residents accused the security officers of abandoning objective service delivery and turning into extortionists hungry for bribes.
