A brazen theft was captured on CCTV footage showcasing the audacity of a thief breaking into a car moments after its owners had parked at a petrol station.

Shell Fourways Petrol Station theft incident

The incident happened at Shell Fourways Petrol Station along Kiambu Road, where the victims, who had just left a bank in Westlands after processing a loan, became the target of the theft.

According to a Tweet posted by user @maliks_88, the occupants of the car had left the bank with a brown envelope, which the thieves mistakenly believed contained money.

"Nairobi. Juzi Some guys visited a bank in Westlands to process some cash issues and left with something in an envelope," read the tweet in part.

The CCTV footage also shared in the tweet, now widely circulated, revealed the sequence of events in shocking detail.

Following the unsuspecting victims from the bank, the thief and his accomplices tracked the car to the petrol station.

"Thugs assumed it was money and followed them up to Shell Fourways Kiambu Road, broke into their car...KDH 716 L...Fake plates, too," added Maliks.

Thief breaks into car and searches for money

The thieves' vehicle discreetly followed the victims' car in the footage, eventually parking near a nearby building.

As the occupants of the car alighted and walked away, one of the thieves, masked and determined, emerged from their vehicle and proceeded towards the parked car.

The daring thief's accomplices then positioned their vehicle in front of the victims' car, deliberately obstructing the view of onlookers.

The footage clearly shows the thief skillfully tampering with the car's lock before gaining entry.

He began frantically searching for the presumed envelope containing money inside the vehicle. Despite his efforts, he was unsuccessful in finding the expected treasure.

After several minutes of searching, the defeated thief left the scene, followed shortly by the departure of the white vehicle they had come in.

"No arrests have been made so far as the thieves are yet to be identified. Police have launched investigations into the same," Maliks told TUKO.co.ke
