Kiambu - Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested a suspected terror suspect.

In a statement on Friday, August 18, the investigative agency revealed that 41-year-old Ferdinand Indangasi was arrested near Skymatt supermarket.

The detectives said the suspect was found in possession of a white substance they suspected to be cocaine, a narcotic.

"In an intelligence-led operation conducted in the Riruta area of Dagoreti, Kiambu County, the sleuths pounced on Ferdinand Indangasi near Skymatt supermarket and recovered five sachets of a white narcotic substance believed to be cocaine from his pockets," read the statement in part.

They explained that after a further inspection of Indangasi, they found his mobile phone with radicalisation literature with extremist teachings linked to the Al-Shabaab terror group.

Why police searched Indangasi's house

The literature prompted the police to take an interest in his house, where they found a pistol loaded with six rounds, cash and nails suspected to be used in making Improvised Explosive Devices (IED)

"The suspect led detectives to his house located behind the supermarket where upon gaining forceful entry, the detectives recovered a Glock pistol loaded with six rounds of 9mm caliber, KSh31,000 in cash and 25Kgs of 4-inch nails suspected to be used in the assembly of improvised explosive devices," DCI reported.

A background check of Inadangasi by the DCI-Anti Terror Police Unit showed that he was a hardcore jailbird who had served 15 years at the Shimo La Tewa prison.

DCI releases names of 5 most wanted terror suspects

In February this year, DCI appealed to members of the public to furnish it with information that would lead to the arrest of five suspects linked with the al-Shabaab militia.

Four of the suspects are believed to have had a hand in the recent attacks against civilians and security forces in Lamu County and within the larger Boni enclave.

The remaining one is linked to the 2014 Garissa University attack in which 147 fatalities were reported.
