Nairobi, Kibera- Ali Mohamad's head doesn't seem to stop pounding, and sometimes the pain goes a notch higher, making it hard for him to do anything.

Ali is confined to a bed at the Coptic Hospital in Nairobi, and doctors have diagnosed him with paralysis on one side of the head, a blood clot in the head and another in the ear.

Ali, as the Chairman of Community Policing and Investigations in Kibra Location, an office under the Ministry of Interior And Coordination of National Government, knew he didn't want to participate in it, so just chose to stay at home.

"At some point, I left to go and see if I could go and get some money from a friend to feed my family. On the streets, I saw some rowdy men trying to break into a show so I got my people and we thwarted their efforts," said Ali.

Ali stops robbery in progress

Walking down the streets, he suddenly found himself on the ground; he tried to get up three times but failed miserably. He realised that blood was gushing from his head, and luckily people around recognised him and rushed him to a nearby clinic.

"They performed first aid on me and rushed me then referred me to Coptic Hospital. At the hospital, the doctors decided they would not operate on me as that would be a death sentence. So they are just treating me," he said.
"Iam stuck here and my two kids back at home don't have anything to eat. That is happening to so many people who are just confied to hospital beds because of maandamano," he continued.

Bill stands at KSh 200,000 and still increasing

Despite Ali being a known figure in Kibra and his widely acclaimed efforts to remove criminal elements from the streets, no one from the government side or the Azimio La Umoja movement has gone to the hospital to visit him.

Although Ali is very unwell, his heart is bleeding for people who got injured, lost their lives, properties, and businesses; in some cases, some have loans to repay. He insists that demonstrations are not the way to go.

"Raila Odinga is very bright and knows how to plan things...on the other hand, William Ruto is an able leader, and the two of them should sit down and iron things out," he said.

At the same time, Ali is smarting from an over KSh 200,000 hospital bill that is still growing by the day.

Raila visits patients in the hospital

In another story, Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party leader Raila Odinga led Opposition leaders in visiting their supporters who were hospitalised.

The leaders visited Mama Lucy Hospital, where they checked on patients injured during the anti-government protests.

Among those accompanying Raila was Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and former Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa.
