Kerugoya - Unruly youth has allegedly attacked Kirinyaga woman representative Jane Njeri in Kerugoya town.

Police officers were engaged in running battles in Kerugoya town after rowdy youth disrupted a meeting convened by the woman representative.

In a video shared by Citizen TV, Njeri claimed that Kirinyaga governor Anne Waiguru had sent goons to disrupt her meeting.

The video showed people hurling stones, wrestling and other consulting in inaudible voices.

"The governor should go. She is remaining with only four years. His people have injured a woman," the woman rep said.

Sponsored chaos

Njeri said they walked on foot after they noticed a commotion in the town and found a woman that had been attacked.

"We decided to walk on foot because they had injured one woman. We decided to take them using the route behind the stage. Uncountable youth on a motorbike surrounded us. I am bleeding, but I must stand for the people of Kirinyaga because I am a resident and was elected here," she said.

She said she was fighting for the people of Kirinyaga to access water and other amenities.

Wangui Ngirici, Anne Waiguru in heated online fight

In the run-up to the 2022 General Election, there was a bitter online exchange between Wangui Ngirici and Waiguru. They were running for governor's seat then.

This is after Waiguru accused her opponent of rigging, adding that her goons had surrounded Kianyaga tallying centre to intimidate and disrupt voter tallying for Gichugu, which is her stronghold.

Waiguru complained about the fact that none of the people can go in or out of the centre, yet the police officers are not doing much to remove them.

"This will not change the will of the people! Results of 1/5; Ngariama Ward: Waiguru 7,995; Ngirici 1,575," she wrote.

In a quick rejoinder, Ngirici told off the incumbent Governor by alluding to past accusations of corruption when she was the Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Devolution.
