Pastor Ezekiel's Newlife Church Gets Relief

The Registrar of Societies had deregistered Pastor Ezekiel's and five other churches over what it described as non-compliance through a gazette notice dated August 3, 2023.

"In exercise of the powers conferred by section 12 (1) of the Societies Act, the Registrar of Societies cancels the registration of the societies specified in the first column of the Schedule, with effect from the respective dates specified in the third column of the schedule," Registrar of Societies Maria Nyariki stated.

Speaking after Justice Jairus Ngaah's verdict, Omari lauded the court for hearing his client's plea, saying that for once amepata nyota yake (he has gotten his star back).

Pokea nyota trend

The preacher is known for his pokea nyota yako (receive your star) phrase which is an equivalent of receiving one's blessings.

"Today Pastor Ezekiel amepata nyota yake (today Pastor Ezekiel has gotten his star). This was a disaster but it is encouraging and worth praise that he has gotten his star to continue running the church and help other people get their star," Omari told TUKO.co.ke.

Omari accused the Registrar of Societies of running a criminal enterprise after the deregistration order, saying the office needed to be probed. They filed an appeal against the deregistration at the High Court.

"The office of the Registrar is a crime zone that needs to be investigated. The acts they have done are criminal in nature," Omari stated.

Omari who had led a robust legal campaign for Odero also revealed that he will be writing to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Office of the Ombudsman to investigate the disappearance of a file belonging to the Newlife church at the Societies' registrar's office.

Even the court has agreed with us. on this. We shall be pursuing criminal sanctions against the Registrar of Societies," Omari said .

Omari who appeared along side Cliff Ombeta and Sam Nyaberi added that they will take the fight to the Public Service Commission to investigate the conduct of the Registrar of societies.

"We shall be also writing to the PSC under which the Registrar has been employed," he added.
