"EACC on Tuesday arrested two civilians namely Salim Mohamed Shekue and Fredrick Hamisi Baya, who had solicited and received KSh 250,000 from the complainant as an inducement to facilitate his recruitment and admission to the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) during the ongoing recruitment," EACC said.

The complainant allegedly acquired a bank loan of KSh250,000 and gave the two suspects an initial amount of KSh 200,000 after they convinced him they had deep connections at KDF.

Later, the suspect called the victim, demanding the balance of KSh 50,000, arguing that the purported admission letter could only be processed after full payment of the agreed amount.

"The complainant reportedly took a bank loan of KSh 250,000 to pay the demanded bribe after the suspects told him that they had "deep connections" in the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) through which they could secure him a chance," EACC added.

The suspects were arrested at Magarini in Kilifi County while receiving the balance after the victim registered a complaint at the EACC offices.

They were booked at Malindi Police Station, where they are detained pending further enforcement action.

Why Turkana girl was locked out of KDF recruitment

In other news, a young lady from Turkana county was annoyed after being locked out of the ongoing KDF recruitment.

Speaking to journalists after failing to meet the cut on Monday, August 28, the unidentified lady revealed she was the first to reach the grounds for the recruitment.

She explained that one of the recruiters asked them to move into an area where they were divided between those from Kerio and Central.

The furious lady added that they were asked if they had certain documents, also used to reduce the number.

"I arrived here exactly at one o'clock, and we were told to wait. We were taken inside and told that if you have the original certificate and everything, set it aside, and if you have four photocopies, you stay here. After a while, they asked the people from Kerio to step aside from the people from Central," she stated.
