Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo has heartbreakingly recalled how her mother struggled tooth and nail to support her, and her siblings and died before living in the lovely house they built her.

While recounting her mother's sacrifices to support all her siblings and herself, Millie said it was heartbreaking that she never got a chance to live in the new luxurious home.

In a moving Facebook post, the vocal ODM lawmaker said despite being widowed as a young mother of eight, her mother worked hard as a civil servant to provide for them.

"Her salary as a social worker with the Council was not much, but she augmented it with a little business here and there. She managed even to purchase and commence buying a rental house at HB Site Estate but had to sell it when almost done to pay for our fees. She had no home on retirement," the MP said.

How did Millie Odhiambo appreciate her mother?

As a show of gratitude to their mum, she and her siblings joined forces to build her a decent retirement home, but sadly, she never got a chance to set foot in it.

The house now remains a bittersweet reminder of their mother's support and sacrifices.

"We built her a modest one, which she unfortunately died a few days before moving in. For us as a family, there is so much to write home about this house. It is sad my mum never had a chance to live there," the MP added.

In the comment section, she narrated that while at the hospital, her mother encouraged her to finish the house, fully exuding confidence that it would receive big cars one day.

"She said we ensure the gate is big to receive big cars," she said.

Siaya man builds mum a house

Speaking of building a house for a mother, a Siaya man who works in a hotel narrated how he managed to build his mum a house after saving his salary and the allowances he was earning at his job.

Frederick Odhiambo said he decided to buy his mum a piece of land and also build her a home of her own as she had lived in rentals for many years.

Fredrick, who revealed that he earns KSh 10,000 to 12,000, said he started by saving his entire salary to raise the money needed for the project.
