Nairobi Man Recalls Being Asked If He Knew Anyone At KRA After Presenting CV: "Never Got Job"

Motivational speaker Sam Vidambu shared a touching story about his early struggles in the job market.

Where did Vidambu graduate from?

His experience sheds light on the challenges graduates face in their pursuit of employment, highlighting the influence of networking and connections in the hiring process.

After completing his Bachelor of Commerce degree in Finance at Dedan Kimathi University in Nyeri, Vidambu faced the daunting task of securing employment.

He relocated to Mlango Soko, Kawangware, to live with his sister while he began his job search.

Despite sending out numerous application letters to various organisations, Vidambu received no invitations for interviews, which left him disheartened.

"I used to send application letters to many organisations but was never called for any single interview. I was devastated," he wrote on Facebook.

However, one particular incident stood out in his memory.

Vidambu visits KRA to present CV

Vidambu once visited Times Tower to personally submit his CV and application letter to potential employers at the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).

It was during this visit that he faced a disheartening question from a Human Resources manager.

According to him, the manager asked whether Vidambu had any connections or acquaintances within KRA.

Vidambu recalled his response, admitting that he did not have any connections at KRA.

"I remember one day when I went to Times Tower to present my CV and application letter, and one of the HR managers asked me if I knew anyone at KRA," he told TUKO.co.ke.

"To be sincere, I didn't know anyone there, it was just me, my God and my degree," he added.

Vidambu becomes motivational speaker

He emphasised that at that moment, he relied solely on his educational qualifications, his determination, and his faith.

Regrettably, Vidambu did not secure the job he applied for at KRA.

Despite the setback, Vidambu's story took a positive turn. He expressed gratitude for the unwavering support of his faith and the opportunities that eventually came his way.

"I never got the job. God has been faithful since that incident," he wrote.

Since that incident, he has gone on to become a motivational speaker, using his own experiences to inspire and encourage others facing similar challenges in their careers and lives.

Vidambu touched by man selling socks

Earlier, Vidambu was impressed when he saw a hardworking hawker walking around with a huge load of socks, trying to make as many sales as he could for the day.

"So today when I was refuelling at Shell Lang'ata Road, I saw this young man carrying socks on his head and selling them. I had to call him and supported his hustle by buying over 15 pairs," he said on his Facebook page.

In an interview with TUKO.co.ke, Vidambu said he could relate to the man as he also came from humble beginnings.

As soon as Vidambu posted about his encounter, his page was flooded with comments, with some people also sharing their experiences as hawkers.
