A bride and groom have sparked a debate online after a video of the man and his family getting into the bride's family house went viral.

The footage captured a moment during a wedding ceremony where the groom and his family knelt to enter the bride's home, sparking a heated debate about the significance of such customs and whether they cross the line into robbing one's respect.

The video, which quickly went viral on Twitter, showed a wedding scene where the groom and his family are expected to kneel in reverence and submission as they enter the bride's home.

Acholi traditions on weddings dictates

According to the clip, the man and woman belong to the Nilotic ethnic group of the Acholi people.

Their traditional practice is seen as a symbol of respect towards the bride and her family.

The man wrote:

"An Acholi traditional pathway to 'Nyom' (wedding). Immediately the suiters enter the home of the mother-of-the-bride-to-be, they are required to get in their hands and knees as a sign of respect, and crawl to the mother's door."

He also disclosed that when the groom and his family got to the house, they were expected to give out cash.

"Yet again when they reach, there is another entrance fee."
