The telco announced that the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) had approved the request to increase the daily account limit to KSh 500,000, up from KSh 300,000.

These new limits mean that M-Pesa customers are able to make several transactions that add up to KSh 500,000 per day.

A per transaction limit of KSh 150,000 however, remains in place, according to Safaricom.

Kenyans were quick to react to the news, some praising the telco for the move as it would enable them make more transactions per day, while others said that the new development would not affect them as they had never attained the KSh 300,000 limit that was in place since 2020.

Safaricom was categorical that the KSh 500,000 per day account limit would majorly benefits Small and Medium Enterprises compared to other users, considering the amounts being transacted.

Naiyoma was stunned that there were people who were surpassing the daily transactions limit of KSh 300,000.

"Safaricom PLC nyinyi mnatoa wapi iyio pesa yote aki (where do you get aall that money). Show me your ways," said Naiyoma Mercy.

Alexander Muttundu lauded the move but said it will be a preserve for a few customers who are able to make transactions of that amount.

"Good move but ni kama kuahindi ngombe wa litre mbili majani akitoa litre kumi (It's a good move but it is like promising a cow that produces two litres of milk more pasture if it produces 10 litres)," said Muttundu.

Omenda Benjamin said that he will, for the time being, celebrate those who are able to benefit from the higher account limit until his time comes.

"Let me continue clapping for others until my turn," Omenda Benjamin said.

To many Kenyans online, the development was good but the problem was that many customers do not have such amounts of money at a time the cost of living was soaring.

"Shida iyo pesa ya kutransact hatuna (The problem is that we do not have the money required for the transactions)," said Lameck Kibiwot.

Safaricom is renowned globally for successfully steering the mobile-money transaction M-Pesa application.
