Mombasa - Good News International Church leader Pastor Paul Mackenzie has maintained his call to denounce earthly possessions.

Mackenzie cut a dejected figure, a pale shadow of his former self, as he appeared at the Shanzu Law Courts on Thursday, August 10, for the umpteenth time.

The controversial preacher was awaiting the court's verdict on the prosecution's request to have the court detain him for another 47 days.

He reiterated a biblical quote from Luke he's believed to have told most of his followers who were accused of selling their possessions at throw-away prices to join the starvation cult.

Mackenzie told Journalists that Jesus had called Christians, adding that the condition to become a student of the Messiah was to renounce one's possessions.

The preacher stated that those were not his words but the scriptures.

"Enter through the narrow gate. Many will want to enter, but they won't be able to. He said, a person must leave everything behind in order to be His disciple. That's enough! Tell this to all of humanity. These words belong to Jesus, not Mackenzie.

Jesus said, strive to enter through the narrow gate, because many will want to enter, but won't be able to. If a person doesn't leave everything behind, they cannot be my disciple. These are the words of Jesus," he said

The words are drawn from the Bible, which, per the King James Version, says, “Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.”

Mackenzie explains why he's happy

The preacher had explained earlier that he's at peace with himself since the Holy Spirit is within him.

Mackenzie claimed that eating was his only sin, and he prays God would forgive him for that one day.

"The Holy Spirit is with me, which is why I am so happy. Do you understand me? The biggest sin I am committing right now is eating. One day I shall be saved from the sin of eating. I know I will live with Jesus forever," he said.

A week ago, the controversial preacher complained that he was being denied food and subjected to inhuman conditions while behind bars.

During the hearing of the prayer by the prosecution to have Mackenzie and his co-accused detained for 47 more days at the Shanzu Law Courts on Friday, August 4, the cleric decried being put through inhumane conditions.

The preacher told the court that he had been isolated from his co-accused and placed in solitary confinement.
