Nairobi - Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party leader Raila Odinga has faulted Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over his comments in Nyandarua county.

Raila and Gachagua met during the burial of Mau Mau freedom fighter Brigadier John Kiboko in Ngorika village, Ol Kalou.

In a video shared by Citizen TV, the duo traded barbs over the ongoing dialogue led by Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Majority leader Kimani Ichung'wah.

Failed government

Raila Odinga threw salvos at the deputy president, accusing the Kenya Kwanza government of failing to compensate freedom fighters.

“Mau Mau freedom fighters have been completely forgotten. Freedom fighters, like in some countries abroad, in Europe and other places, should earn allowances until they die because these people selflessly fought for the freedom of this country," Raila explained.

Defending the government, Gacahgua said the government was aggrieved and was doing everything possible to address the aggrieved freedom fighters' issue.

The former premier blamed Gachagua for his comments rubbishing the Azimio la Umoja demos and the ongoing bipartisan talks.

“Kenya, like any other country, has its problems, and the Constitution allows Kenyans to protest to solve such problems. No person can come out to protest on the streets if everything is fine. In countries like Senegal, France and others, people protest because they want some problems addressed, and it is allowed,” he said.

Respect government in place

Gachagua clapped back, asking the opposition leader to respect the government in place and support its initiatives.

In a video published by Citizen TV, Raila replied to Gachagua and accused him of disrespecting him.

"Every day, he talks to me like we are age mates. He is disrespectful and keeps spreading tribal politics," he complained.

Gachagua explained that the anti-government demos were not helping anyone because the electorate are the biggest loser.
