Nyeri- Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has warned Majority Leader Kimani Ichung'wah against becoming a sellout in the upcoming Kenya Kwanza-Azimio talks.

Speaking just days after the Kikuyu legislator was picked as the leader of the Kenya Kwanza dialogue team, Rigathi asked Ichung'wah to take his role seriously and ensure he does not get cornered by the Opposition.

Rigathi's stern warning to Ichung'wah

Speaking in Nyeri, where the DP has been accompanying President William Ruto on a tour of the Mt Kenya region, the second in command reminded the majority leader that he got his wife in Nyeri.

Rigathi, in a jocular fashion, told Ichung'wah should he become a sell-out during the bilateral talks, his wife could be taken and also children.

"You have been given the responsibility by the president to deal with these people. Don't dare become a sell-out. Don't cajole them. And Kimani actually got his wife from here (Nyeri); if you dare go and get cornered, we will take away your wife and children, and you will be left alone," Rigathi said as the Nyeri audience broke into laughter.

Kimani Ichung'wah on agenda during talks

This came just a few days after Ichung'wah stood by his statement indicating that both Kenya Kwanza and Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party will hold mediation talks.

On Monday, July 31, Ichung'wah insisted that the issues he released in his statement are up for discussion.

"The five agenda items are what we were to form a committee on. But again, Kenyans need to ask themselves, why would two eminent persons, the name of a president, the republic, and a former prime minister agree to form a committee to discuss nothing?" he posed.

Ichung'wah will be the lead in the Kenya Kwanza team while Kalonzo is the team leader of the Azimio faction.

The talks will start today, Wednesday, August 9, at the Bomas of Kenya.
