Nyeri- There was a perfect display of bromance at the Sagana State Lodge after President William Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua lit a bonfire together ahead of a TV interview.

The head of state appeared for an interview with Inooro TV and was accompanied by Rigathi, who often appears on the political show hosted by journalist Mike Njenga.

In the Sunday, August 6, Inooro's Kiririmbi (loosely translated to mean big flames) show, the two top leaders began by lighting the bonfire together as is the norm in the weekly show.

As they were adding some pieces of wood to the bonfire, they were seen sharing a hearty wave of laughter, and afterwards, they each sweetly wiped off the dust from each other's coats.

The deputy president then introduced the president to the TV host, where the president spent nearly two hours explaining the development projects of his government.

"Hii ni ya kuenda kuongeza kwa moto," the president was heard asking Rigathi amidst laughter.
"Your excellency karibu kwa Kiririmbi," Rigathi told him.

Ruto and Rigathi treat Nyeri residents to some delicious lunch

The president has been on a tour of the Mt Kenya region from Friday, August 4, and has been staying at the Sagana State Lodge during the visit.

On Sunday, August 6, the two leaders treated Nyeri residents to a feast after serving them some rice and meat.

The locals were seen joyously sharing the meal of rice and meat and they could not help but praise the second in command for the treat.

Their excitement was over the roof as the residents had the delicious lunch at the Sagana State Lodge.

Rigathi's mchele nyama promise

This was also a fulfilment of one of Rigathi's promises to the residents in the months leading to the 2022 elections.

During the burial of his elder brother James Reriani in Nyeri, the then-Mathira MP advised Ruto that when he becomes president, he had to invite Mt Kenya residents for a plate of lunch at the Sagana State Lodge.

"There is one thing President Moi used to do and we request you to do it, any time you come to the State Lodge, open the door, prepare rice and meat for our people to eat, just that. Is there anything more you want?),” Rigathi said at the time.
