Singh Rai: William Ruto Links Sugar Billionaire To Dubious Deals Day After His Abduction

The mystery surrounding the abduction of billionaire businessman Singh Rai has deepened after President William Ruto linked him to dubious deals in the sugar sector.

Rai was abducted in broad daylight on Friday, August 25, in Nairobi, and it was not until the evening of Sunday, August 27, that his family confirmed his release from hostage.

However, hours before he was freed from his abductors, the president suggested that Rai had been sabotaging his efforts to revive the Mumias Sugar factory and even linked him to cartels.

The businessman owns Kabras and Uganda-based Sarrai group.

"Do not have any anxiety. I am on top of things! I will make sure everything is streamlined. Even for those cartels, do not worry that anyone of Indian descent will convince me otherwise; it is not possible. I heard of Rai, Who is Rai? No, that's not possible. This is people's property, and will not allow anyone to take advantage," the president told Bungoma residents on Sunday, August 27, while speaking about reviving the sugar sector in the region.

On the evening of Sunday, August 27, Rai, who was abducted on Friday, August 25, was released safely.

His lawyer, Senior Counsel Kioko Kilukumi, said Rai was released on the evening of Sunday, August 27, nearly two days after his abduction.

Kilukumi said the Kabra Sugar owner was shaken but fine and had reunited with his family, which had been searching for him.

The billionaire went missing when his Toyota Land Cruiser was blocked at the junction of Wood Avenue in Kilimani opposite Kenwood Apartments at around 4pm by people driving a grey double-cab pick-up.

Meanwhile, a viral CCTV footage was published detailing when his abductors removed him from his vehicle in Nairobi's Kilimani area.

Rai had been caught up in a traffic snarl-up along Wood Venue when he was ordered out of his vehicle and led to another one waiting on the side, which drove off moments later.

His immediate family booked a missing person report under OB No 21/26/08/2023 at the Kilimani Police Station a day later.
