A Kenyan university student has lamented after a friend borrowed money and refused to repay.

Did university student lend friend KSh 47k?

Marvin Wanjala Mabonga claimed that his friend Bevan Simiyu Wafula first borrowed $200 (KSh 28,000), which he repaid with interest.

“I believe he was doing online trading, and he requested me for the money. I converted it into dollars, deposited it in my Binance account and transferred it," he told TUKO.co.ke.

However, Marvin ensured that they signed an agreement and attached their national IDs to ensure he was repaid.

“The money was from a business I run in school, using it for rent and paying fees. The next day, he returned the money with a $10 interest.”

Bevan then requested $400 (KSh 57,000), but Marvin did not have it.

“I told him I would get money from my business and finally sent $330 (KSh 47,000) after signing a similar agreement.”

However, Bevan’s phone was switched off when it was time to repay.

“I decided to stay online and noticed that he logged into WhatsApp at 2am. He blue-ticked my messages and did not pick up calls.”

Marvin said a mutual friend contacted Bevan, and he responded but went missing when the money issue was brought up.

“His silence speaks volumes. If he lost the money or had any challenges repaying, he should have told me- I would have understood.”

Marvin, a final-year student at the Technical University of Mombasa, fears he might not sit his final exams.

“The money helps me pay my fees and the rent for my business premises and house. I have exams next week and might not sit for them.”

He further warned Kenyans by saying:

“Don’t mix friendship and money.”

Bevan refuted the claims that Marvin sent him money.

He questioned the authenticity of a document proving he received the money.

"I even don't have this document. Everything was done online."

However, he acknowledged receiving and repaying the $200 with interest.

Marvin said he would take legal action to settle the impasse.

Man denied pay finds success

In other news, a Nigerian man laboured for his boss but did not get the expected settlement he deserved after years.

The man was falsely accused and was not given any money after his many years of service.

He decided to relocate abroad, where he made a fortune.
