Makueni - Two suspects escaping police arrest for carrying bhang in their vehicle have fled into Tsavo National Park, known for dangerous man-eating lions.

The two yet-to-be-identified individuals in a speeding vehicle allegedly failed to stop after police manning a roadblock in the Kanga area asked them to, prompting the nail-biting chase.

The two occupants immediately disembarked from the car and fled into nearby thickets inside the Tsavo National Park.

"Police have recovered a consignment believed to be bhang, that was destined for the coastal city of Mombasa. The recovery made last night followed a chase pitting police officers against two occupants of a silver Toyota Premio, registration number KAV 214D, that was ferrying the narcotics," the statement from the investigative agency read in part.

The duo's resolve to rush to the park seemed to have paid off, as police officers could not locate them.

The car has since been towed to Mtito Andei police station as a manhunt for the two suspects continues.

"The arrest came after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) concurred with the recommendations of EACC to charge the Police Inspector with two (2) counts of soliciting and receiving a bribe from the complainant to facilitate the release of his pregnant girlfriend," EACC said.
