Eldoret - A group of irate drunkards caused a scene when they cornered a quartet of four law state law enforcers who had raided the drinking joint.

The officers were cracking down on illicit brew sellers in ​​King'ong'o on the outskirts of Eldoret when they met the wrath of the revellers.

They hurled stones and other projectiles at the officers who seemed overpowered, detaining them for more than an hour inside the joint.

The revellers had observed that the officers were biased and only targetted their joint whenever they carried out a crackdown on illegal alcohol.

The officers contacted their colleagues who later showed up for their rescue.

The anti-riot police unit (GSU) was sent to the area to rescue the officers.

Confirming the incident, Uasin Gishu County Police Commander Benjamin Mwanthi said the GSU officers managed to rescue their colleagues.

Despite the attack by the revellers, the police seized more than 300 litres of the illicit brew from the joint.

"We thank God that the angry crowd did not burn down the house where our officers were detained," is quoted as having said.
