"Thank you, your Excellency President William Ruto for appointing me as Director of Public Communication in the office of the Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service," he wrote on Facebook.

He quit broadcasting earlier this year after making a comeback to radio following his acquittal from the International Criminal Court (ICC) in 2016.

His last station was the Mediamax-owned Emoo FM which broadcasts in the Kalenjin vernacular; his career in media lasted 24 years.

"It has been a 24-year journey that began in Sayare in 1999, through Biblia Husema in 2003, Kass FM in 2005, and now ends at Emoo FM/Mediamax," he said while informing his fanbase of his departure.

What were Sang's tribulations at ICC

Sang and Ruto were implicated in the crimes against humanity charges at the Hague-based ICC as regards the 2007 post-election violence.

The duo was on the list that former ICC prosecutor Moreno Ocampo unveiled of those accused of having masterminded the violence that saw deaths and forcible displacement of people.

Others in the Ocampo-six were former president Uhuru Kenyatta, former government minister and lawmaker Henry Kosgei, former government senior bureaucrat Francis Muthaura and former police boss Hussein Ali.

The six were acquitted, albeit at diverse times, with Ruto and Sang absolved in April 2016.

The jury presiding over the case argued that there was insufficient evidence to convict them.

"Trial Chamber V(A) decided, by majority that the case against William Samoei Ruto and Joshua Arap Sang is to be terminated. The parties have not appealed this decision. Case also involved Henry Kiprono Kosgey. Judges declined to confirm the charges against Kosgey on 23 January 2012," said the judges.

Uhuru charges were dropped in December 2014.
