Jenny Appleford from California, a non-smoker, was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer.

Despite the grim prognosis, Jenny and her husband Kyle have chosen to face the challenge head-on, openly sharing their emotional journey on YouTube.

Jenny grappling with reality

According to New York Post, Jenny's life took an unexpected turn in March 2021 when she was diagnosed with inoperable stage 3 lung cancer at 33.

Initially experiencing rib pain and shortness of breath, she underwent chemotherapy, procedures, and various medications to overcome the disease.

Unfortunately, cancer metastasised to her brain and lymph nodes, advancing to stage 4, and doctors delivered the heartbreaking news that she had less than a year to live.

Breaking the news to their young kids

With their children, Ellis, seven, and Winnie, three, to consider, Jenny and Kyle faced the difficult task of explaining the situation to their young ones.

In a video titled "We Told The Kids I'm Dying," the couple captured the heart-wrenching moment as their children reacted to the news.

“We talked about how the cancer is getting bigger and stronger, finding more places to go and hide to where we can’t get it and they both started breaking down instantly,” Kyle stated, adding that the conversation made him “sick to my stomach.”

Ellis clung to the hope of a miracle, while Kyle and Jenny, realistic yet hopeful, navigated the challenging conversation with love and courage.

“We told them the doctor told us about six to nine months. Ellis was very much clinging onto this idea that there could be a miracle.”

The seven-year-old purportedly told his parents that he was hoping he was having a bad dream.

“‘It takes a lot of courage to be honest with them because it’s a scary thing to say, but this is the route we took and I’m glad we did it,” Kyle said, defending his and Jenny’s parenting decision.

Throughout their ordeal, the couple chose to share their journey on YouTube, vlogging Jenny's battle with cancer and providing updates for their channel's 105,000 subscribers.

Mom suffering from cancer tells son she will soon die

Elsewhere, a parent came to terms with the fact that her time on earth was running out and the child could no longer be kept in the dark.

That was, sadly, the case with 43-year-old Dr Nadia Chaudhri who was forced to reveal to her six-year-old son that she is suffering from stage 3 ovarian cancer and will soon die.

She shared the news on Twitter the day she planned on having the emotional talk with the youngster.

"Today is the day I tell my son that I’m dying from cancer. It’s reached a point where he has to hear it from me. Let all my tears flow now so that I can be brave this afternoon. Let me howl with grief now so that I can comfort him," she wrote.
