Andrei Guriev is a Russian senator who has a net worth of $5 billion. Born in 1960, Andrei Guriev, the senator from Murmansk Oblast, graduated from the State Central Institute of Physical Culture. His income mostly comes from his control of Phosagro, one of the world's four largest phosphor fertilizer makers that produce phosphates, feed phosphates, and fertilizers. Guriev used to be a Moscow communist committee leader who later on, became an enthusiastic capitalist.

Working with Mikhail Khodorkovsky's Menatep Group, he served as Chairman of its subsidiary Apatit. After Khodorkovsky's prosecution, Guriev led a management buyout aiming to take over the control of Apatit. In 2012, his company Fosagro bought from the state a 20% interest in Apatit, which is the most significant source of raw materials. At this time, Fosagro holds 77% of Apatit.
