She was chosen to sing back-up vocals for the band The Innocents on their single "A Thousand Stars" when she was only 15 years old. The song reached #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and #6 on the US R&B chart. Kathy Young released their debut studio album The Sound of Kathy Young in 1961.
