Career

LaVan Davis was born on September 21, 1966, in Atlanta, Georgia.

Davis began his acting career in 2004 when he landed the role of Leroy in the film "Mindbenders." The following year, he made a guest appearance in two episodes of "Everybody Hates Chris" playing the character of a preacher. The same year, he appeared in the Tyler Perry film "Madea Goes to Jail" in the role of Leo. In 2006, he appeared as Otis Jenkins in "Puff, Puff, Pass."

In 2007, Davis booked another Tyler Perry film role as a musician named Lester in "Tyler Perry's Daddy's Little Girls." He also booked what would become one of his most notable roles in "Tyler Perry's House of Payne." He landed the role of Curtis Payne in the series, one of the leading roles. He remained on the show from 2007 to 2012, its entire on-air run, appearing in 254 total episodes. The series has aired more episodes than any other television series with a predominantly African American cast. Initially, the series aired on the Atlanta-area channel WPCH-TV as a limited run.
