"The injuries were on his body from the hips to the back and other parts of the body. There were also injuries on the hands which may indicate that he tried to defend himself," said Benson Macharia, a government pathologist at MTRH.

He further revealed that before his death, the student had lung problems known medically as respiratory distress syndrome.

The exercise was performed in the presence of police and the family of the murdered student led by his mother Mary Wambui, who bitterly lamented the torture his son went through to save her life.

"It's clear that my child was tortured badly, but I leave everything to God as we prepare to bury him," Wambui said.

According to the devastated mother, her son's offence was to rush to her rescue when the suspects apprehended her.

5 KFS suspects in Mwangi's death arrested

Mwangi's case was an addition to several cases of police officers assaulting the public and eventually killing them.

Following the incident, the five officers were apprehended by sleuths from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations who were probing the matter.

This was after the angry residents staged demonstrations along the Maji Mazuri-Makutano Road intending to set ablaze the KFS offices after their purported actions ended the young man's life.
