Bondo Man's House Set On Fire By Unknown Assailants As He Sleeps

• The young man from Bondo was woken up by huge smoke that had engulfed his two-roomed house at around 2am
• He lost everything he owned, including his clothes and bedding, when the fire razed down his home
• The police have launched investigations into the matter with a keen interest in a few individuals the victim owed money

A 22-year-old man is now counting losses after his house in Bondo, Siaya County, was set ablaze by unknown assailants when he was fast asleep.

The man was awakened at 2am by smoke that had completely filled his two-room grass house. He expressed his frustrations at not knowing where to start.

Why was the house burnt down?

According to a Citizen Digital report, the man reported the incident at the Lwala Kotiende Police Station, saying that he had lost everything he owned, including his clothing.

The man indicated strong suspicion that his house may have been intentionally set ablaze by one of the youths with whom he had a dispute regarding a debt owed.

He reported escaping unharmed and alerted his family members, who promptly extinguished the fire.

What did the police say?

Speaking to Citizen, Siaya County Police Commander Cleti Kimaiyo stated that the cause of the fire is yet to be established.

He added that officers from the local police station visited and documented the scene. They have initiated investigations to determine the true cause of the fire.

Family in distress after assailants set house on fire

Earlier, a family in Nyagondo, Gem, counted losses after everything in their house was burnt to ashes.

Maurine Ogelo told TUKO.co.ke that their parents sleep separately from their children, which might have saved them.

She detailed that her sleep was disrupted by the sound of breaking glass caused by the fire's intense heat.

Upon exiting the house, Maurine described being initially shaken by the sight of her parents inside the burning house before she began screaming for assistance.

Neighbours responded to the cries for help and assisted in extinguishing the fire, ultimately enabling her father to escape from within.
