As reported by TV47 Digital, Adungo was hit by a sharp object, and he sustained several wounds including a deep cut on the head and chin, and was later admitted to Bungoma West Hospital for treatment.

His colleague Odera sustained head and ankle injuries after being hit with a blunt object. He was rushed to Nabuala Hospital by a passerby on a motorcycle and is now in stable condition.

Police assignment under investigation

According to the Sub-County Criminal Investigation Officer (SCCIO) in Bungoma, the reasons for the two officers' visit remain unclear and the SCCIO has taken up the matter for further investigation.

The authority has urged police officers to exercise caution while embarking on private missions to avoid future attacks from residents.

The incident is among many challenges the authority said police face in the line of duty and further emphasized the importance of officers being vigilant while carrying out missions in volatile areas.

Police attacked with a machete in Siaya

In April, a police officer pursuing a sexual assault suspect sustained injuries after the suspect resisted arrest and attacked him with a machete.

The suspect had locked himself in his house in Rachuonyo when the officer, in the company of others, went to arrest him.

The officers shot in the air to scare the suspect who later sustained gunshot injuries.
