David Kioko: 25-Year-Old Man Linked To MKU Student Murder Detained For 14 Days

Thika - A court in Thika has allowed the police to detain the main suspect in the murder of Mount Kenya University (MKU) student Faith Musembi for more days.

On Tuesday, May 14, David Kioko, aged 25, was arranged before Thika Chief Magistrate Philip Mutua, where the investigating officers requested 21 days.

Why did Thika magistrate grant police 14 days?

In his ruling, Mutua allowed the police to detain the suspect for 14 days until May 28 so that investigators could complete their investigations.

In his submission, Investigating Officer Oscar Limo said detectives needed time to conduct another autopsy to collect more samples to ascertain the pregnancy and conduct a DNA test.

The investigators also sought more time to recover the deceased’s mobile phone, which they intend to subject to forensic analysis.

“We are working to recover the deceased’s mobile phone, which we intend to subject to forensic analysis. We want to complete the investigations and compile a comprehensive report, and the same will be forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions,” Limo told the court as reported by Citizen Digital.

Why police linked David Kioko to Faith Musembi's murder

As reported earlier, Kioko is suspected to have killed Musembi, a first-year student at MKU, at her rented apartment in Pilot Estate on Wednesday night last week.

The 19-year-old girl is said to have been eight months pregnant before the Tom Mboya University student allegedly killed her.

According to Lawrence Muchangi, the Thika Sub-County police commander, he is believed to have been in a relationship with Faith for six years.

Muchangi said investigations into the matter have pointed to alleged cheating and mistrust.

• According to an autopsy conducted, it was revealed that Faith died of excessive bleeding from placenta abruption.
• WhatsApp conversations shared by the family between her killer and the parents showed how unremorseful the suspect was before committing the heinous act.
